Class of 1970


●    Graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering

●    Graduated from the University of Oregon with an MBA in Org. Behavior/Marketing

●    Graduated from Washington State University with a Master in Teaching and a Ph.D. in Math/Science Education

●    Spent over thirty years as an engineer and project manager for multiple major cooperations such as Monsanto and Hewlett-Packard

●    Worked for over ten years in the field of education from the middle school to collegiate level

●    Owns STEM to Branches, Inc.

●    Assistant Professor of Education Research STEM at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville

●    Appointed to the Executive Commission DEI for the American Society of Engineering Educators

●    Earned many academic and professional honors including the Faculty Excellence Award (2002) at the University of Oregon and being recognized as an Abell International Honored Doctoral Scholars (2017) and a Top 20 Corporate Hispanic Lead (2006).

●    Completed numerous research projects and academic publications on STEM and education.

Charles F. Hertenstein III

Class of 1978

●    Graduated from Southern Illinois

University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology

●    Graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1997 with a Master of Arts in Managerial Economics

●    1978-2000 Served as an United States Air Force instructor and standards pilot and earned multiple service and campaign medals

●    2000-2022 United Airlines pilot

●    Involved in the development of several technologies including autonomous air refueling and radar jamming as a research pilot

●    Featured in Mighty Planes

●    Special Olympics Event Coordinator

●    Philanthropist to many organizations such as St. Jude’s, American Cancer Society, and the Wounded Warrior Project

●    Works for FlightSafety International as a corporate jet instructor pilot
